What I’ve been doing since April
In May, I moved back to Alabama. This is probably the root cause of neglecting this blog, which is honestly a personal journal of how my photography progresses. I am proud that despite not keeping this blog up, I never stopped shooting.
Color Film
I shot a couple rolls of Lomo Metropolis as my first rolls of color film. I shot one at 400 ISO and the other at 200. I was much happier with the 200 ISO exposure. The lower ISO produced colors that were a bit more saturated, specifically the greens. The examples below are unedited.

In the Woods Again
Since relocating to Alabama, I have access to forests and mountains again unlike my previous existence in Central Texas. I spent a lot of time shooting small scenes or environments in the woods this summer. As a kid, I used to look at small areas on the ground and wonder what it would be like if I was an inch tall – each square foot would seem like a new environment. These shots start with that idea, and aim to evoke a feeling of mystery and serenity.
I like the low light and scattered light that occurs in the riverbed and forest floor. To run with that, I shot some film and digital shots on black and white, and experimented with pushing film and red filters. I like many of the results, and plan on exploring this theme heavily in the future.

Birmingham Film Walk
I began joining the fine folks at the Birmingham Film Walk in September, and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Now it is the highlight of my month. I have seen some cool spaces In Birmingham, met some great people, and learned a lot about cameras and film. The first walk I joined was in Lakeview and I took a Kodak M35 just to take some snapshots and enjoy the experience. The next walk, October’s, was in a warehouse downtown that someone in the group uses as storage space. We had costumes, models, and lighting available but I found myself mostly shooting the space. I took an obscure eBay camera called an AMC M135, that only has zone focusing, with a roll of Fujifilm 200. I also loaded up my trusty Minolta with some Fomapan 400 to take some B&W shots. I haven’t finished my roll of Fomapan yet, so it isn’t developed, but below are some color shots from the October walk and some B&W from the September walk.

Developing Film
In order to experiment as well as cut costs, I have begun developing my film at home. So far, so good. Scans and examples coming soon.
