SABOT

San Antonio Botanical Garden, 2020.

We planned a trip to Marfa in west Texas the summer of ‘20. We were exhausted with pandemic life in the Houston metro. Marfa is pretty isolated, so we reckoned that it would be a good pandemic-cation. As we were booking the trip, we saw a headline that the main hotel in Marfa had a huge outbreak. So we decided against risking being sick in the middle of the high West Texas desert, hundreds of miles from anything.

Instead, we opted to book an Airbnb in San Antonio, walking distance to the SABOT and near the art museum. It turned out great – we encountered almost no one.

I am generally attracted to constructed environments and how they are juxtaposed against natural things – these arranged plant specimens inside big glass domes are stereotypical subjects for me. These pictures were all shot on an iPhone SE and edited using Snapseed.
